Rechten inheemse volken

Your Excellency,

Please allow me to express my concern about the situation of the Lubicon Cree First Nation, in the western Canadian province of Alberta .

Unlike most other Indigenous Peoples in the province, the Lubicon have never entered into a treaty with the federal government to set out the boundaries of their land. Government promises to establish a Lubicon reserve, or legally recognized land base, have never been honoured.

Oil and gas extraction led to the rapid collapse of the traditional hunting and trapping economy, plunging the once largely self-sufficient community into extreme poverty and ill-health from which they have never recovered. The Lubicon have not benefited from any of the oil- and gas exploitations on their land. Nor have they received compensation or assistance to establish alternative sources of livelihood.

I urge you to respect the Lubicon land rights and the need for a just settlement that would enable the Lubicon to rebuild their economy and way of life.

I call on you to stop licensing new oil and gas development without the consent of the Lubicon community.

I am confident in your good will and sense of justice.

Yours sincerely,

Stop the selling of Native American Scalps on Ebay.
30-01-2008.

The petition.

We at Tribal America and beyond, wish to draw attention to the sale of Native American Scalps on ebay, and other burial items such as burial moccassins etc, items taken from the graves of our people.
We demand this is put to an end.

ebay clearly states; Humans, the human body, or any human body parts are not permitted on eBay.
Items that contain human hair (such as lockets) as well as skulls and skeletons that are used for medical purposes may be listed on eBay.
eBay does not permit the sale of Native American skulls, bones or other Native American grave-related items, as the sale of such items may violate federal law.

Also:
Artifacts, Grave-Related Items, and First Nations' Crafts
Artifacts, cave formations (speleothems, stalactites, and stalagmites), grave-related items and any object made or reworked by humans and associated with historic or prehistoric cultures that are protected under federal laws are not permitted on eBay.

Please follow the general guidelines in the ”Some Examples” section when listing these or similar items on eBay.

Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions by eBay, including:

Listing cancellation

Limits on account privileges

Account suspension

Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings

Loss of PowerSeller status

Yet ebay clearly allows Native Scalps to be placed as items for sale and other sacred items.
Someone must be held accountable for this, and we aim to see that they are.
Please sign this petition showing your support to have these items removed from ebay and to have those responsible punished by law.
Please circulate this petition as widely as possible...only together can we make a difference!

Tsisqua

(Update.....the Sioux Scalp has now been removed, but there still are other items that need to be addressed and take from ebay)
